Sightseeing

Seoul, South Korea

Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) Tour

Demilitarized zone is a place one must visit to gain an understanding into the Korean psyche, which has largely been formed through the occupations, wars and division the nation has suffered over the years. Even with its past, the area is quite safe for travelers and is one of the most fascinating day trip options from Seoul.

DMZ Peace Train
Overcoming the pain of history and focusing on the greatness of nature and life, the DMZ train is introduced with three cabins, each with a theme of peace, love and harmony respectively. Seats with great views of the outside, cafe, photo-zone, photo gallery and many other services are provided in this tourist train. Passengers can enjoy great scenic views on the DMZ train as it bypasses the renowned Imjingang Railroad Bridge.

Dorasan Station
Dorasan Station is one of the northernmost railway stations on the Gyeongui Line, connecting Seoul to Sinuiju. The station was visited by previous Korean President Kim Daejung and pervious American President George H.W. Bush. The station has become a symbol of the efforts for a unified Korea.

Dorasan Peace Park
Dorasan Peace Park is an ecopark featuring a pond in the shape of the Korean peninsula with a boardwalk around it. The park’s exhibition hall teaches about the history of Dorasan Station and presents information and materials on the ecology of the DMZ.

Dora Observatory
Dora Observatory is the northern-most observatory on the Western section of the DMZ. The binoculars offer views of the city of Gaeseong, Songaksan Mountain, and the Statue of Kim Il-sung in North Korea. The area just beyond the observatory is within a military outpost command, so photography is strictly prohibited here. In addition, the observatory is located within the Civilian Control Line, so visitors must join the Dorasan Security Tour to visit.

3rd Infiltration Tunnel
Discovered in 1978, the Third Infiltration Tunnel was dug by the Northern army to spy on their Southern counterparts. The tunnel is 1,635 meters long, with a height and width of 2 meters. It is estimated that over 30,000 soldiers would have been able to pass through the tunnel in just one hour. It has become an all inclusive tourist attraction, with a DMZ video hall, representative sculptures, gift shops and more.

Dongdaemun Market

Dongdaemun Market is a large commercial district comprised of traditional markets and shopping centers that covers the entire area around Dongdaemun Gate, a prominent landmark in Korea. It is Korea’s largest wholesale and retail shopping district featuring 26 shopping malls, 30,000 speciality shops, and 50,000 manufacturers. All kinds of goods can be found here including silks and fabric, clothes, shoes and accessories, electronics, leather goods, sporting goods, office supplies, pet products and toys.

Although Dongdaemun Market is traditionally famous for its night market, this popular shopping district attracts hordes of shoppers and tourists at all times of day. Like Namdaemun Market, Dongdaemun Market sells a variety of products, but unlike Namdaemun Market, it is open 24-hours a day. The powerful appeal of Dongdaemun Market stems from the fact that you can buy everything you need at a reasonable price, in one convenient location and at anytime. Most major wholesalers and retailers are here along with specialist outlets focusing on the youth market, making Dongdaemun Market the best place to find the latest fashions at bargain prices. Dongdaemun’s famous food alley, Mukja Golmok, is also essential for anyone wanting to check out the latest trends in Korean cuisine.

In addition to selling everything under the sun, large shopping malls such as Good Morning City and Freya add an extra dimension to the shopping experience with their own multiplex cinemas, while Doota features a huge outdoor concert hall hosting a range of events including outdoor fashion shows, concerts, modeling contests and classical Korean music for tourists.

Changdeokgung Palace

Joseon Dynasty, and is the most well-preserved of the five remaining royal Joseon palaces. The palace grounds are comprised of a public palace area, a royal family residence building, and the rear garden. Known as a place of rest for the kings, the rear garden boasts a gigantic tree that is over 300 years old, a small pond and a pavilion.

The palace gained importance starting from the time of Seongjong, the 9th king of Joseon, when a number of kings began using it as a place of residence. Unfortunately, the palace was burned down by angry citizens in 1592 when the royal family fled their abode during the Japanese invasion of Korea. Thanks to Gwanghaegun, the palace was restored in 1611. Even today, it houses a number of cultural treasures, such as Injeongjeon Hall, Daejojeon Hall, Seonjeongjeon Hall, and Nakseonjae.

Changdeokgung Palace’s rear garden was constructed during the reign of King Taejong and served as a resting place for the royal family members. The garden had formerly been called Bukwon and Geumwon, but was renamed Biwon after King Kojong came into power. The garden was kept as natural as possible and was touched by human hands only when absolutely necessary. Buyongjeong, Buyongji, Juhabru, Eosumun, Yeonghwadang, Bullomun, Aeryeonjeong, and Yeongyeongdang are some of the many pavilions and fountains that occupy the garden. The most beautiful time to see the garden is during the fall when the autumn foliage is at its peak and the leaves have just started to fall.

Gyeongbokgung Palace with Royal Guard Changing Ceremony

Gyeongbokgung Palace, located north of Gwanghwamun Square, is one of the most iconic sights in all of Korea thanks to its long and storied history. Construction on Gyeongbokgung Palace was completed in 1395 at the beginning of the Joseon Dynasty during the reign of King Taejo. Expanded over time, Gyeongbokgung was the center of power during the Joseon Dynasty until the Japanese invasion of 1592-1598. During this time, the palace was destroyed by fire and left in ashes. One fire was started by slaves trying to destroy legal status records. The ruins of Gyeongbokgung were abandoned for the next 270 years. 1868, Gyeongbokgung was rebuilt and restored as an icon of Korea with help from Heungseon Daewongun, also known as Prince Regen.

Jeju City, South Korea

Hyeopjae Beach

Hyeopjae Beach is located on the west side of Hanrim-eup, and is part of Hanrim Park. The beautiful white color of the sand comes from the large amounts of crushed seashells that have been mixed in with the sand. The long seashore stretches for 9 km and has cobalt colored seawater and evergreen forests scattered around the vicinity, making the scenery very beautiful. Just off the beach is Biyangdo Island. The white sandy beach is about 20 meters long, and the water is 1.2 meters deep with no sudden drops. In the evergreen groves, there are plenty of convenient facilities and campgrounds for visitors to use.
Hanrim Park nearby, provides interesting tour sites such as a subtropical arboretum, Hyeopjaegul Cave, and Ssangyonggul Cave. The seashore to the southwest of Hyeopjae Beach connects to another beach called Geumreung Beach, and both beaches combined are also called Hyeopjae Beach. From any beach on Jejudo Island, you can always see Mt. Hallasan. It is a great place for a relaxing family vacation.

Hallim Park

Hallim Park is one of the most popular tourist spots on Jeju Island, located about 33km west of Jeju City and Mt. Hallasan along the beach in Hallim-eup. It faces the pleasant scenery of Biyangdo Island, Hyeopjae Beach and Geumneung Beach. The park was established on barren land in Hyeopjaeri, Hallimeup, then covered with tons of earth and the planting of assorted subtropical plants began in early 1971.
Hallim Park, reaching almost 100 thousand square meters, has a variety of gardens that can be enjoyed in any season. Cheonjeyeon Falls

Cheonjeyeon Falls, named "The Pond of God," consists of 3 sections. Around the falls, a variety of plant life thrives, such as the rare ‘solimnan’ reeds. To the east, there is a cave where cold water pours from the ceiling to create the first waterfall. The water gathers into a pool and from there, falls two more times, creating the second and third waterfalls, which then flow into the sea, The first runs from the floor of the mountain on the upper part of Jungmun-dong, which falls 22 meters. The water there falls again two more times to form the second and third sections, which then tributes to the sea. The first segment is usually a pond, but falls when it rains. The forest in which the fall is located is in a warm temperature zone so you can feel rejuvenated while watching the fall and feel refreshed while breathing in the cool air, In Cheonjeyeon Valley, visitors can see Seonimgyo Bridge (arch bridge with 7 nymphs carved on the side) and the octagonal Cheonjeru Pavilion. Seonimgyo Bridge is also called Chilseonyeogyo, meaning "seven nymphs bridge," and it connects Cheonjeyeon Falls with Jungmum Tourist Complex.

O’Sulloc Green Tea Field

Sanbang Mountain

A staggering 395.2 m above sea level, the Sanbangsan Mountain was formed due to a violent volcanic activity over 800,000 years ago. Layers upon layers of lava have cooled to form the majestic mountain you see today. You can expect to be rewarded with a spectacular view of the ocean.

Horse museum

Well, in Korea, it’s not. Since majority of people are living in city area, riding horse(or even seeing) is not familiar scene in Korea. Basically horse had been regarded as transport means for a long time, but we don’t need them anymore in the city. Furthermore, there is not enough ground for horse in urban area.

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak

Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak rose from under the sea in a volcanic eruption over 100,000 years ago. Located on the eastern end of Jeju Island, there is a huge crater at the top of Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak. The crater is about 600m in diameter and 90m high. With the 99 sharp rocks surrounding the crater, it looks like a gigantic crown. While the southeast and north sides are cliffs, the northwest side is a verdant grassy hill that is connected to the Seongsan Village. The ridge provides an ideal spot for walks and for horse riding as well. The sunrise from the crater is magnificent. And it is also called sunrise peak. It was also recently named in 2011 as one of the seven wonders of nature in the world. The sunrise from the crater is magnificent. Also the Seongsan Ilchulbong Peak surrounded by bright yellow colored canola flowers in the spring is truly a sight to behold, it’s a relatively easy climb to the crater. The journey there and back will take an hour or so, but it’s tempting to spend much longer to appreciate the views and enjoy the ambience of this natural wonder.

The summit is reached via a well-kept path that winds up the north-west face of the volcano. As you climb, look out for the unusual rock formations that spiral up its slopes. The crater cone provides a perfect habitat for some rare plants, including species of fern and orchid that are not commonly found elsewhere. In spring, the mountain is surrounded by a vibrant yellow carpet of rapeseed fields.

Seongeup Folk Village

Old-fashioned village featuring simple homes built of thatch & lava rock, with iconic stone statues.

Gwangchigi Beach

From August 2017, Jeju Island implemented a new city and intercity bus system. It increased the number of buses in service, while simplifying the routes, fees and numbering system

Haenyeo Museum

Museum with exhibits on local fishing culture & female divers, plus a sculpture garden & gift shop.

Manjanggul Cave
